Look! A Gringa!
There are two types of chickens here: pollos criollos (the colorful ones people raise in their backyards) and pollos gringos (the white ones that are industry raised on feed and sold in supermarkets). And that is where my community thinks the word gringo comes from. The... white...chickens.... Get it?...because all Americans are white....

I learned the word gringo in my anthropology class in a book I was reading about an anthropologist in Ghana! Interesting!
